Kangzhuangzi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Northeast Liaoning. The Kangzhuangzi Fm was named by the No.9 Party of Geology, Liaoning Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources in 1989. The type section is in Kangzhuangzi, Dadianzi Township, Tieling County, Liaoning Province. It is the middle formation of the Sanchazi Gr.

Lithology and Thickness
In the type section, the Kangzhuangzi Fm is composed of littoral clastic rock, clayey rock and carbonate rock, which experienced low-grade metamorphism. It is subdivided into three parts. Lower part is made up of thin- to medium- to thick-bedded metamorphosed feldspar-quartz sandstone, iron-bearing feldspar quartz sandstone intercalated with sandy dolomite, slate and phyllite. Middle part is carbonaceous slate intercalated with silty slate. Upper part is fine-crystalline to microcrystalline limestone with carbonaceous limestone. The formation is 800 m thick. It is relatively stable in lithological character, but changeable greatly in thickness, e.g., it is up to 1419 m in Xinlitun-Xiaobeigou, Kaiyuan County.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is in conformable contact with underlying Daposhan Fm (the lower formation of the Sanchazi Gr).
Upper contact
The top is overlain by the Guanmenshan Fm (the upper formation of the Sanchazi Gr)
Regional extent
Northeast Liaoning. It widespread in the Fanhe River drainage area.
